THE BIG DINNER: DAY 8

Check out the chefs in the kitchen preparing Algerian soup and tagine with meatballs today… I clicked the camera taking one picture for one second! What do you think they’re talking about?

A lady contacted us asking if we need anything today. Not only did she buy and carry whatever items she could all by herself but also volunteered her help in the kitchen as soon as she walked into the café!

A second donation within the hour by another lady. She had to rush back home to attend to her baby but managed to spare some time.

THE BIG DINNER: DAY 7

We first met this lady in December 2016 as a volunteer and she was due to return to see us in the new year when she started suffering from heart problems and couldn’t.
Just yesterday she called in to see what’s happening at the Concord Cafe; and after hearing about the Big Dinner, brought in handmade Kesra today which she made fresh herself! “We must help our community”, she said.

What if a homeless man gave you donations? You can see the homeless man sitting in the garden at the cafe right? One of our volunteers very kindly brought him in and offered him yesterday’s chorba and hot main meal. He was so thankful when he found out that we give to all regardless of their financial situation during the month of Ramadan, that HE donated everything he owned except his clothes – 1 can rice pudding, 1 can soup, 1 baguette, some pastry and 70p. Now, Chefs are cooking chorba for today

More donations today! The first picture of donations are from a volunteer passing on his motorbike before work, he came to the cafe just to ask if we needed anything for today

Saha Ftourkoum! Two PC’s were invited by volunteers as they saw them passing by, they’re on duty today but we made sure they try a classic Algerian bourek!

THE BIG DINNER: DAY 6

BD Day 6 – Two people have made a joint donation of a large quantity of meat today including chicken, lamb and minced meat. Really, what a wonderful gift.

Chef’s will be pulling up their sleeves to get this meat cooked! All you have to do is turn up to the Big Dinner and share it with us!

Who else is having bourek today? Bourek made fresh everyday @ The Concord Café!

The Big Dinner: Day 3

Day 3 of Big Dinner:

Tagine Zitoune or chicken with olives, is a dish much loved in Algerian culture, especially during the month of Ramadan. The white sauce is cinnamon flavoured and thickened with flour at the end of preparation; and fairly easy to make.
